Dear Friends,
You've heard the saying -- "Water is Life". Everybody talks about it. But talk is not enough -- action is needed. We invite you to put "Water is Life" into practice by taking part in Amman Imman's 8th annual A Walk for Water, on May 10 at the Locust Grove Nature Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

For the past seven years, students and their families have come together to extend a hand of friendship to our brothers and sisters living in the Azawak of West Africa, where the crucial significance of "Water is Life" is an everyday reality. This year we hope to bring a little bit of the Azawak to you.

Join us starting at 10:30 am and experience the ambiance of West Africa. First, you'll check-in for the event. Then, you'll venture into our Azawak cultural festival. It will be the rainy season, when the marshes are full and offer sustenance. Step into a nomad's tent and drink Tuareg tea. There will be hands-on activities, cultural demonstrations, food, crafts, music and fun for the whole family!

At 12 noon we'll gather for a short rally to learn about Amman Imman's work and hear stories from the Azawak. We'll begin walking on the trail together starting at 12:30 pm, enriched with a deeper understanding about why "Water is Life" for the people of the Azawak. We'll emerge with vision and committment about what we can do together to change this reality.

Come and bring your friends! To join us, Register on Fundly where you'll create your fundraising page. You'll be supporting our current projects in the Azawak which, in addition to providing sustainable and permanent water sources, include establishing food banks, teaching sustenance farming, providing malaria nets, building schools and community stores, providing materials for women artisans to do their craft, installing livestock programs, holding literacy programs for women and more -- all of which are possible because of water, and your help!

Get more information about the event on the Locust Grove information page on our website and find out how you can win a Kindle Fire! See you at A Walk for Water!

Yours, for the Azawak,

Please mark your calendar for Amman Imman: Water is Life's 8th annual, A Walk for Water, to be held at the Locust Grove Nature Center in Cabin John Park, Bethesda Maryland on Saturday May 10, 2014

A Walk for Water is a fundraising event that symbolizes the 35 mile trek children living in the Azawak of West Africa travel to bring water home to their families. The funds raised will benefit Amman Imman's projects to build sustainable sources of water in the Azawak and will support food security, health, sanitation, education, women's empowerment and livelihood activities.

This year we are planning a fun and interactive pre-walk festival starting at 10:30 AM aimed at educating students as global citizens for the Azawak. "Passport to the Azawak" will feature live music, hands-on activities, and cultural demonstrations. Following the festival we will walk 3 miles on the Cabin John Park trails.

Participation in A Walk for Water provides an opportunity for families to engage together in a global community service experience. The event qualifies for MCPS SSL hours and could be used as CAS hours for IB students. Registration for the event will officially open on World Water Day, March 22. Details will be available soon at this link. We hope you can join us!
